For the past 34 years, Ida Polite has served as President of Ida’s Idea, her own Fashion House. A graduate of Saint Paul’s College, Ida’s first professional job was an accountant with Blanchard Management in New York City at the World Trade Center II. Her next position was a buyer for three major boutiques in New York City. Those positions were exciting and she worked very hard to make sure those stores stayed on top of the fashion trend. Her experience as a buyer ultimately lead to entrepreneurship — Ida’s Idea.

Not only does Ida’s Idea market great designs and accessories, but also offers internship opportunities to fashion design students from Howard University, the University of Maryland and other local colleges. Interns are taught how to identify market value, pricing, store designs and taken to New York city to meet with top designers. Ida enjoys going into the classroom lecturing on Entrepreneurship and Fashion.

Ida has received numerous awards. In 2014, she received the Living Legacy Award from Be There Magazine, the Business Achievement Award from National Capital Area NANBPWC, Inc. in March 2013 and Outstanding Entrepreneur Award- “Women in Excellence” from The Alumni Association of Ballou S.T.A.Y. in 2008.
